    Hi,

I’ve noticed featured images are showing up on new AMP articles I publish. I have featured images not showing up on non-amp articles, but for some reason the setting does not push through to the new AMP ones. The only difference is that I am now using the block editor, instead of the classic one.

I cannot seem to remove the featured image via custom CSS either, but that does not work. I suspect that is because I am only using the reader amp legacy template.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I’ve read through a bunch of forum posts, but nothing seems to work. Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the php due to the site being hosted on wordpress.com

    Thank you!

  • @pyvt thanks for your topic!

So there are a few ways you can go about removing the featured image from your AMP posts:

    1) Note that typically the AMP Legacy Theme would display a feature image when one is uploaded to a post. Since the default customizer/ Additional CSS section applies to the non-AMP version of the site, CSS added there would not apply to the AMP version.

You can add this filter to a custom plugin (since it looks like you are on the WP.com Business plan) to remove the featured image from AMP posts when using the Legacy Theme.

    2) Since version 2.0, Reader Mode Themes were introduced providing several theme selections besides the default AMP Legacy Theme. When you select any of those, CSS can be applied to the AMP version specifically under Appearance > AMP > Additional CSS. This might be a more accessible way to hide the feature image on AMP posts.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Renee,

Boom. Your first suggestion worked. I couldn’t see the plugin you recommended, so I just put the code in the code snippets plugin I have. Seems to have worked fine, let me know if it would be better if I download a custom functions.php plugin.

    Thank you

@pyvt thanks for the update and glad that worked! Using a code snippets plugin is just fine. The alternative would be to create a small custom plugin with the code using the www.ads-software.com documentation.

Have a great New Year and feel free to leave a review about your experience with the AMP plugin if you’d like!
