Since the update to 4.3 we are seeing a change in how our articles are now shared. We have articles automatically being shared to a facebook page. We noticed that now the featured image and a snippet of the article is not longer being shared. What do I need to do to fix that?

Are you using Publicize from Jetpack for that? If so, the change wasn’t WordPress 4.3, it was actually a change a while back in Jetpack.

At the moment, Jetpack only attaches images served by Photon, which means it can only attach images in the post content itself, which the Featured Image typically isn’t. They are working on a fix for this along with more customization options.

I am not using Publicize, I can activate it. Is there another Jetpack that would work to show the featured image?

Publicize is only part of Jetpack.

What plugin are you using to share your posts automatically to Facebook? This functionality is not built into WordPress.

Link to site/post would help so we can see what kind of meta tags your posts have and what Facebook’s debugger thinks about them. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

I’m not sure.. We have not had any issues until recently. OH wait, I’ve seen a message to deactivate Photon so that media lite will work.

Well, that doesn’t seem related to sharing to Facebook. ??

At Jetpack -> Settings in your blog’s Dashboard, is Publicize enabled?

If not, what plugin are you using to automatically share to Facebook?

    I get the following messages:

    Errors That Must Be Fixed
Missing Required Property The ‘og:type’ property is required, but not present.

    Warnings That Should Be Fixed
Inferred Property The ‘og:url’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

Based on included and inferred properties, the above preview is what users will see when they share this URL. See this in the share dialog.

It’s possible that you’re just getting that because you shared the main site URL. Try a post URL, and use the “Fetch New Scrape Information” button.

Also, again, at Jetpack -> Settings in your blog’s Dashboard, is Publicize enabled?

If not, what plugin are you using to automatically share to Facebook?

Ok, I think what’s happening is that your site takes so long to load that Facebook just times out. It took 10 seconds or more for me to see the site.

Facebook debugger said: “Curl Error : OPERATION_TIMEOUTED Operation timed out after 10000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received”

I ran it through a speedtest https://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ and it takes 17 seconds to load.

I can see the meta tags in the source but Facebook gives up before it gets them.

I active the Photon and configured the Public but the featured images are still not showing up. I’m not sure with the ‘og:type & ‘og:url mean. I do appreciate your help here.

We are running very slow since updating to 4.3

I understand there is a fix being worked on when 4.3.1 is released it should resolve the loading issues. Do you have any idea how long before that update is available.

It will be ready when they’re sure it’s bug-free.

With regards to the auto-sharing to Facebook, I really can’t help unless you say which plugin you’re using for that, which I’ve asked for 4 times.

Ah yeah, looks like you have this issue then possibly: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/high-cpu-load-after-update-to-v43?replies=25

I hope they get the fix out soon. I modified the taxonomy.php file and made that fix.php file mentioned in the thread.

    (oops, nevermind)
