Featured Image not showing up

  • I’ve been working with WordPress for over 10 years. I just took over managing a website for my client from a website that their previous developer built. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why the featured images that I have set are not showing up. See the page here: https://packardcabinetry.com/news/ . I just added the Carolina Home & Garden post. The main news page does not show the featured image, but the page itself does show it in the main header. Also, I tried to add a portfolio item to this page here: https://packardcabinetry.com/portfolio/ . You will see the “Maleno White and Gray Modern Kitchen” is missing its featured image on the main portfolio page, yet it too shows up in the header when you click to the page. I have checked everything a million times and still cannot figure out why this is happening. I also tried cloning one of the portfolio items and just swapped everything out with my own images. When I did this, the original featured image that was cloned from showed up on the main portfolio page, but the new image that I set to be featured did not. It only showed up when you clicked to see the actual page. Any and all help is appreciated!

  • Hi, using the developer tools in Chrome I was was able to see that the theme for the website you are managing was built custom by the old developer. Chances are the old developer did not include the code in the archive.php and/or single.php of the theme.

    I’d suggest looking at this: https://developer.www.ads-software.com/themes/functionality/featured-images-post-thumbnails/ for help adding it into the correct places in the php file.

    Thanks. The puzzling this is why would the pages that he created previously work just fine with the featured image and mine would not? I would assume that means that he did put the featured image code in the templates?

    Update to this issue. I created a brand new portfolio item from scratch yesterday and the correct featured image showed up on the landing page. I got so excited! But then when I created a new portfolio item today, the featured image did not show up. I tried to clone the one from yesterday that worked, but now it’s showing that featured image instead of the one that is set in the portfolio item.
