Featured image on top of posts

I add a Featured image to each post. But they do not appear on top of single posts. I tried the solution posted here:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/featured-image-not-show-in-the-post/But, this displays a large image on top of the posts and pushed the sidebar down.
