• Hello mates

at first: thanks a lot for your work!
I’ve got a problem with my page and it would be fantastic, if some of you could help me.

The problem is, that the post image of my page (mission news theme) seems not the be the featured image. Google-News shows the first picture INSIDE the article as image, and not the post image (which should be the featured one). I hope that you understand what I mean.

Here’s an link to the Google-News page of my domain handelskontor: https://news.google.com/publications/CAAqBwgKMNSaoAsw4aS4Aw?hl=de&gl=DE&ceid=DE:de

I tried a lot of stuff today but it did not work. Could anyone help me? This would be awesome.

    All the best to you,
    stay healthy,

    Raphael

  • Hi,
I will help you. I do not know what SEO plugin you are using. But you have to access the Feed settings and write %FEATUREDIMAGE% in the RSS Before Content section.
This will work if you’re adding content to Google News via /feed/.

    Best regards.

Adding: If what I said doesn’t work, the Featured Image in RSS Feed by MailerLite plugin might work for you.

However, I wouldn’t recommend unnecessary plugins.

    Hi,

thanks a lot for your answer. Sounds that it could work but unfortunately I am not very experienced and am not sure what to do.

=> access feed section in SEO plugin? I use YOAST SEO. Or do you mean inside the google publisher center? I hardly dare to ask, but if you could write a little guide for laypeople, I would be infinitely grateful!

    Cheers & thanks again!

    Best regards

I used to use the Yoast SEO plugin as well. But I quit a long time ago. I don’t know if the variable I’m talking about will work for him, but it won’t hurt to try it.

It will be done via WordPress, not Google News.
Here is the way to get there: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-use-rss-variables-in-yoast-seo/

Type %FEATUREDIMAGE% in the upper box. Try it out to find out if it works for new content. Let me repeat. Google News must receive your content via FEED. This is how I solved your problem. But that was a long time ago. I’m not interested in that side anymore.
As far as I remember, when you do this, the Google News app will have a Featured image above the news content. Also, this will be the cover picture.

If these don’t work, the plugin I mentioned will do.

    Best regards.

I tried. The method I said works. I said a place wrong. No new content is needed to try it out. You can also see it by adding a new category to Google News.

You are awesome, I am very happy, thanks!
I will try it tomorrow morning.

You’re welcome. I helped with pleasure. If you go back, I’ll know if it works for Yoast SEO.

With Yoast SEO it did not work, maybe because of me. Anyway, the plugin which you told me works perfect.

All the best & happy weekend,
    Raphael
