Featured image removal in content area

Colormag Theme: A duplicate featured image appears below the Front Page: Slider Area widget. I would prefer to have this lower area empty (without a featured image), still have the image in the Front Page: Slider area, and allow the current “post” to appear just under the Front Page: Slider Area widget (which is the most current post). I thought I could delete the featured image in the appearance/media area and then have a featured image of choice appear in the Front Page: Slider Area widget area (top left) under menu. When I turn a featured image on with a single post page (leaving the appearance/media featured image off), I still get a featured image appearing is two locations. One in the Front Page: Slider Area widget and another one (duplicate) just below the Front Page: Slider area. Is it possible to delete the image just below the Front Page: Slider area and have the contents of the current post move up to just under the Front Page: Slider area widget? I can provide a static image of this if necessary. Thank you.
