• Hi, so I am very green when it comes to WordPress.

I am trying to create a website https://www.paulrstafford.com
As it may be clear, the featured images for each post on the front page are coming in at different sizes. What must I do to ensure they are automatically using the thumbnail selected each time I post please?

    Best wishes,
    Paul

Hi Paul, did you manage to get this sorted out? Looks like your images are filling the grid squares on your homepage.

In Pictorico, featured Images work best at a minimum of 1200 wide and 590 high.

Just let me know if you still need help.

    Hi Kathryn,

yep I worked out that images need to be a minimum pixel size, but still not found out how to make the thumbnail I set be used in the front page grid squares.

It seems as though the grid squares merely take a random portion of the featured image and use that. Any thoughts?

There is no way in the theme to control the specific portion of your featured image that’s used in the grid on the blog page.

I’m curious what you mean by “the thumbnail I set” and “the thumbnail selected”? There is nowhere in Pictorico that you can control the crop position of your images for use on the blog page.

There are plugins that try to provide more control over cropping, like this one:

I just gave it a very quick spin with Pictorico and it seems to work as advertised – you might like to experiment with it.

Thanks I will give it a go.
To clarify my thumbnail comment – In the featured image section it is possible to click ‘edit image’, thus opening up a cropping and editing window. In that you can crop the image and select a box on the bottom right of this window that says changes will apply to thumbnails only. When you confirm, the cropped, thumbnail image then shows in this edit window. That crop is what I wanted for the Pictorico front page post image but it does not seem to be able to understand that I have edited a thumbnail version of the photo…I don’t know exactly. It all seems more complicated than it need be.
    But thanks for your help.

I definitely see why it’s confusing.

Let me know whether the plugin above does the trick.

Images must be in “jpg” format for the featured image to appear.
