• hi, been using wordpress for more than 7 yrs and i can easily say that this is one of the best free themes. thanks a lot for this.
I am planning to migrate all my blogs to do, started off with the first. Have a question though.
I migrated https://www.sightsinseattle.com yesterday. Rather than set featured image individually for each of the older posts, can i do it in an easier way?
The easy add thumbnail plugin only looks at pics added thru the “add media” button. I have placed direct html links to images within the posts (they are images within the same domain though).
if you look at https://www.sightsinseattle.com (i added the first one manually), the rest of the image blocks are empty.
    Any help on this?
    thanks a lot.

  • Hi, I don’t seem to understand what “easier way” you are looking for.
Easy Add Thumbnail – never tried it, but it says: “Checks if you defined the featured image (previously named post thumbnail), and if not it sets the featured image to the first uploaded image into that post”.
So, if you don’t have any uploaded image in old post, like for example https://www.sightsinseattle.com/collecting-usa-state-quarter-coins/ it will set no featured image in post.
Other solution – you can remove featured image in Hueman, or show only the ones that has it, but then IMHO blog looks pretty ugly, some post with featured image, some without, only title.
I’m afraid you’ll have to do it manually – or maybe somebody has better idea?

    Mike.

thanks for the reply Mike. The problem with ‘easy add thumbnail’ is that it recognised only the ones which are added thru ‘add media’ i.e. stored under uploads. If you see a post e.g. https://www.sightsinseattle.com/deception-pass-bridge-and-state-park-washington/ , you will see that images are stored under images folder and linked to, directly through html. this plugin doesn recognise these.
How do i get a featured image for such posts without going into each post and adding one?
    thx again for the reply.

Now I understand completely what you mean.
Suppose you did massive FTP upload and then just added link to image – but there you have to “pay the price” – nothing except “normally” uploaded images through WP media library is properly recognized by WP later.
IMHO, WP Media Library and it’s logic of functioning is one of worst parts of WP (well, maybe i shouldn’t say this, as a long time WP user, but it is really true ??
I tried also some plugins for different purposes like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/media-file-manager-advanced/ – makes nice folder tree (1 of basic things missing in native WP media library), but if you stop using it – you can find yourself in a trouble.
Also tried https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/folder-gallery/ for different purposes (to grab FTP uploaded photos in different folders and show it as gallery), also works nice to some limit.
But to make it short – personally never found complete plugin solution that can work independent from native WP media library, so I gave up.
As I wrote – I think it’s best to set featured images in Hueman manually, through WP media library & loosing some time (I suppose you don’t have 10 thousand of posts, or similar ??
On the other hand – Hueman looks nice amongst else because of it’s “magazine” look and featured images.
Didn’t helped you much, but I think you’ll hardly find some proper solution.
    Regards,
    Mike

Mike, a reply/acknowledgement goes a long way in a big forum. thanks for that.
this is the confirmation i needed that there is no shortcut for it. yes, i dont have a huge number of posts and should be able to manage manually.
    thanks again

    Try this:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/get-the-image/faq/

    4. If no image is attached, it can extract an image from your post content (off by default).

    Or this:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/import-external-images/

    (your images count as external)

I see now it needs little bit more explanation. If you already fixed manually your problem it can help others.

    – Let one on theese plugins scan all your post/pages for “extern” images in posts.
    – Plugin will attach all of them them to specific posts/pages.
    – Then there are plenty of other plugins that take first attached image and use it as featured, if theme doesnt support it this way.
