I am a newbie to WP and Hueman. I recently set up Hueman w/ a child theme, and started using images as featured images for the posts.

I assumed that images would be inserted and scaled to fit the available featured image space, however, this is not the case. Because of this, images are cropped.

    As an example, see this:
    https://www.coolpack.com

You will see that some images seem fine but other are not.

As a specific example, the first post for news ( https://www.coolpack.com/category/news/ ) shows a cropped image (the title of the post is “Cryoport and Sanaria Expand Logistics Partnership Supporting Malaria Vaccines”).

What am I missing here? is there a best practice relative to what kind of images (and sizes) will work, and which will not work?

Also, is this something specific to Hueman or does it apply to WP in general?

I have looked online for this, and have seen a support posting specific to Hueman, which asked to modify functions.php, which I did, but did not help at all; I have also tried to do the regeneration of thumbnails, which did nothing either (by the way what is a thumbnail in the context of WP?)

Any help would be much appreciated, I am really enjoying WP and Hueman, but the image issue is the biggest detractor in my mind to getting things looking professional enough. If you need any clarification on anything please let me know, I will be on the look out for questions. Thanks!

Note that I have also tried the setting in Hueman for Media where I can check or uncheck the crop images check box – not sure what this does, but it doesn’t help my issue.

Hi benromero. In the post that you cited as an example, what was the original size of the image that you uploaded to the Media Library?

    Hi bdbrown,

Thanks for your reply. Original size for one of the cropped images was 957 x 136 – how would that impact the issue?

FYI, I have used the plug in “Post Thumbnail Editor”, and this was able to fix the issue. But if you can respond so that I understand the underlying problem, that would be much appreciated!

Well, first, glad you found a fix and thanks for the info on the plugin. The basic issue is that WP hard-crops the image sizes designated in the theme when they are imported to the Media Library. You can read more about image handling in this article and this article. There are various ways around this and it looks like the plugin you cited may be one good solution.
