  • DO NOT host your blog with yahoo. There is absolutely no support by them. The yare such a pain just to install and for that matter you won’t get a lot of help here because it’s like beating your head against a wall trying to figure out all of their weird quirks.
    GoDaddy is way better (thought I’d never say that).

    Hello,

    Although I have <<not>> used the Yahoo! “automatic install” for WordPress, I have uploaded and used WP 2.0.4, 2.0.5, 2.0.7, and most recently, WP 2.1 on Yahoo! (All downloaded from www.ads-software.com.) I have not encountered any problems with Yahoo! or running WP on Yahoo!

    Initially when I installed WP 2.0.4, I could not get WP to install. After a few minutes–and rechecking my <<wp-config.php>> file entries–I discovered via the Yahoo! online documentation that the MYSQL setting ‘localhost’ term–define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’)–must be changed to ‘mysql’–otherwise, WP won’t install. (It fell into the 1% of installations that need to change this value.) For me, it did not take too much time to install WP and get it working. Of course, a manual install requires installing PHP Admin, MYSQL database, and properly configuring the database name and passwords and other related items. PHP Admin, MYSQL, and the WP “auto install” are provided by Yahoo! with their small business hosting plans. (And making sure that you put WP into a separate directory folder for your blog, unless you want to use WP as your “website.”)

    WP upgrades have not gone too well, although it might not have anything to do with Yahoo! after reading many of the WP support messages over my WP usage timeframe. A clean install took care of the problems immediately (except 2.0.5 which required the ‘WP Tuneup’ plugin to workaround some WP bugs); however, I hope to avoid this “upgrade” method in the future. This problem might caused by an improperly documented item or step in the upgrade process that caused different problems for every upgrade, since I was very careful about what I was doing and triple-checked every action prior to doing it.

    As a final note, perhaps a member can state specifically what features do not work on Yahoo! With this information, you can determine if these features are important to you. For example, there may be a plugin or some other WP features that you wish to use–and that I am not using–that do not work, which may better help you with your hosting decision.

    @darylr
    until you answer at least a hundred “my blog not working on Y!”-type of topics, please, don’t say anything. Thank you for cooperation.

    If you don’t have to use yahoo, my advice is: don’t! It’s not worth it. I’m with Yahoo and I’ve had a lot of problems.

    Good luck

    all those guy’s

    i don’t under stand when yahoo don’t provide good support why wordpress.com recommended in https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/

    You must be very young or very naive… $$$ ??
