    Hello!

    I’m stressing out about Feedburner and Feeds… I’ve searched on Google and this forum for answers and have just been left saying, “… huh?” I’m very new to WordPress, self-hosting, feeds, and having my own domain, so I’m sorry if I’m a bit slow and unseasoned.

    I can’t get Feedburner to work, and I’ve learned you have to have a working feed.

    This comes up on Feedburner: “The URL does not appear to reference a valid XML file. We encountered the following problem: Error on line 41: Attribute name “async” associated with an element type “script” must be followed by the ‘ = ‘ character.”

    And this comes up when I type in what I THINK should be my site’s feed (ditchingadulthood.com/feed): “This page contains the following errors:

    error on line 41 at column 22: Specification mandate value for attribute async
    Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.”

    I have no clue what any of this means. I know how to get to my .php pages and what not, but I don’t know where to go from there, or if that’s the issue. Help!

    Thanks. =)

  • Line 41 of your feed is a script tag: script tags are not allowed in RSS feeds so you feed doesn’t validate.

    The script from the plugin that inserts that Pinterest “Pin It” sharing button over your images in your posts. But it seems to be inserting itself not only into your posts but also your feed: which it definitely should not do, and which is causing your feed to not work.

    So if you deactivate this plugin: Pinterest Pin It Button On Image Hover And Post, your feed should work. And you should report what happen on the plugin’s support forum:

    Hey, thanks for replying!

    How’d you see line 41 of my feed? I checked ditchingadulthood.com/feed after deactivating the Pinterest plugin and the same error message popped up. I’ll wait a little while longer to see if anything changes when I refresh my feed’s URL.

    In your web browser you can view a webpage’s source code (different browser do it different ways, but try right0-clicking and selecting something called like: “View Page Source”).

    Are you sure that plugin is deactivated? Because on your Home page I still get the Pin It button when mousing over your images. And, as you noticed, in your feed line41 is still:
    <script type="text/javascript" async defer data-pin-color="red" data-pin-height="28" data-pin-hover="true" src="https://www.ditchingadulthood.com/wp-content/plugins/pinterest-pin-it-button-on-image-hover-and-post/js/pinit.js">

    Something is inserting that script tag; seems like it’s gotta be that “Pinterest Pin It Button On Image Hover And Post” plugin. Go to your Dashboard> Plugins and be sure it’s deactivated.

    If so, maybe you have a caching plugin that has a version of your Home page with the script still there. If so, try emptying the cache — should be a button in your cache plugin’s settings.

    Ahh, okay, I remember how to pull up a page’s code now.

    So I double-checked, and the plugin was deactivated. So I deleted cache from my dashboard AND the cache plugin and it worked wonderfully! I was able to continue on with Feedburner and the error message doesn’t come up anymore.

    I’ll be sure to send a message notifying the plugin’s support, thanks for the link!

    And again, thank you so so much for being so patient with me and explaining things to me. I really appreciate it! I’ll look into some other plugin for Pinterest that supports my WordPress version.

    Glad it worked out. Please mark this forum post as resolved if all’s well (using the checkbox under the text entry field, or the dropdown in the sidebar).
