• Hi there

I am scheduling posts for the future, and then using the feed to trigger other things outside of wordpress using IFTTT.com. This relies on the feed being populated with the latest posts.

It seems that the feed is not being populated with the latest posts until the post is actually visited. Prior to that it does not show.

In other words the post is published automatically, and I can see it in the blog, but the feed does not contain a link until I go and visit the post itself

However, I am relying on the feed to tell people that there is a new post and they should visit. So I won’t get visitors until the feed is populated, which seems to need a visitor to see the post first.

My question is: how can I make WP “unpack” (is that the right word??) the posts.

I thought that maybe it was related to me checking the feed too early, and perhaps a process needs to run before the feed would populate. But I’ve left one post for several hours and still the feed does not have the item.

    Any ideas?

Oh… sudden thought.. will GoogleBot trigger the unpacking of the posts?

    Thanks
    Brett

Thank you very much for responding so quickly.

To clarify, my posts actually show up. I can see them on the blog page which shows all the latest posts. I have someone adding posts pretty much every day, so the cron should be being triggered, and I ma having no issues with the scheduled posts being published.

What’s not happening is them being added to the feed. I’m guessing this does not happen until they get unpacked.

It seems that the solution on the link you provided is more about scheduled posts not being published, which is not the problem I am having.

    Cheers

You see the posts in your blog because you have visited the site. WordPress cron publishes the scheduled post when somebody visits the site, just before the page is rendered. Posts are not added to the feed If nobody triggers the scheduled post to be published.

Does your feed work when you publish a (non scheduled) post?

I was checking the feed actually from my site. So I went directly to the site first, then clicked on the feed button.

I will check about whether a non-scheduled post ends up in the feed. Thanks for that tip.
