Feed validator reports problem with charset encodi

  • Hello,
    When using the feed validator at https://feedvalidator.org/ , all my RSS feeds from WP report the following:

    Your feed appears to be encoded as “iso-8859-1”, but your server is reporting “US-ASCII”

    This, despite the correct setting in Options > Reading > Encoding for pages and feeds.
    My site is hosted at Dreamhost, is anybody having the same problem ? How can I fix this ?

  • I had a similar problem with wp sending one encoding for my page, but the server sending another. This was my page though, not my feed.
    It was sorted when someone here said to use this in my .htaccess
    AddDefaultCharset utf-8
    Maybe adding something similar would help ?

    This is a case of the feed validator developers decided that something that doesn’t hurt any aggregators I know of and that previously was not marked as an error is now marked as an error. We will address this in the next release, but for now don’t worry about it. It’s an academic thing and isn’t going to effect how your site is consumed.
