I’m not sure why, but for some reason the custom fields don’t seem to save when I update them. Sometimes they do, but most times they don’t.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Open the editor for the post/page
    2. Scroll down to Custom Fields
    3. Change the value in the custom field I want to update
    4. Click “Update” in the top Gutenberg bar
    5. Check the front-end to see if the field was updated (it was not)
    6. Reload the editor to see if the new custom field value was there (it had reverted to the previous value)

I was previously using a plugin called “Show Hidden Post Meta” that did the same thing (but not for Gutenberg) and it had an “update” button for when you wanted to update a field (via ajax I suppose) and gave a visual indicator that it had saved by flashing the background yellow. No need to even update the post/page.

Thank you for reporting this. It sounds like a bug. I will investigate and try to resolve any issue for the next plugin update.

In the meantime, you may want to test to make sure that the issue is not theme- or plugin-related. This can be done in a matter of minutes using simple troubleshooting techniques.

Following up, this issue should be resolved in the latest version of the plugin (1.4). Please update and let me know if any further issues or feedback. Thank you for reporting, Dustin.

Awesome! Saw the update this morning and was going to try it out today.

Should there be a ‘save’ button? Furthermore, there is no way to add more than one custom field at a time.

I am on version 1.4 of this plugin and Gutenberg 4.5.1

Nate, that is correct. Due to changes in WP core, the Custom Fields meta box provided by this plugin is pretty basic, mostly just a way to “see” which fields are attached on Gutenberg-enabled posts. So no “save” button, however there are ways to add new custom fields, I think explained in the readme/docs.
