I have received an email stating that two files under wp-content/cache appear to be malicious. Both files contain concatenated and minified css and js files and are quite large. Short of a meticulous analysis of every line, my question is two-fold:
    1) can I simply delete any files, indeed folders, under wp-content/cache ?

    2) would it be possible for email messages informing about suspicious files give a wee bit more information about why, or where in the file, the suspicious content occurs????

  • You can try clearing the cache and seeing if the alert goes away.

Well, that was my question. The standard WordPress admin interface does not, to my knowledge, offer a “clear the cache” function. So I wanted to know if I could simply delete the offending files. I am not, by the way, using the caching functionality of Wordfence, nor am I using any generic caching plugin (although certain plugins are maintaining their own caches).
