• Greetings

I am well on my way in building a new site for game modding, I am transferring content from another platform to WP. In this is included a file archive just below 4GB large and 228 files and 26 folders.

The question I have is how to import them in to Media Gallery with relevant naming and folder/category sorting unchanged. How would you do it maintaining the structure…

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for your question. I regret that MLA does not provide any explicit support for the particular import task you have outlined. MLA adds some functions to the WordPress file uploader, but does not participate in the upload process itself.

There are a few earlier MLA support topics that mentioned this plugin:

    Add From Server

In my own testing a few years back it seemed to work well enough, but it looks like it has not been maintained for a while. My WordPress Repository search also turned up this alternative:

    Media from FTP

I do not have any direct experience with it but it looks better supported.

I do not know your application well enough to advise you further. For what it’s worth, my recommendation would be to rethink your application more along the lines WordPress encourages. You wrote about “naming and folder/category sorting“. You can use the taxonomy support MLA provides and you can use metadata in image files to assign terms. You can use MLA’s mapping rules to construct item names and other values. File names and folder hierarchies can be replaced with more database-centric techniques.

I regret the news is not better, but I am marking this topic resolved because I have answered your question to the best of my ability given what I know. I wish you every success with your application and thank you for your interest in MLA.

Well, it was kinda expected, adding the files manually is of course more work, but they still have to be tagged and categorized nevertheless so using drag-and-drop would in any event lead to that work.

    Thanks for the tips though.
