    Hey,

I got a problem with the files I upload through Download Manager. Those are mostly PDFs and if I wanna download them again from the file detail page they mostly first fail, then on second try they do download but are always corrupted (and a little bit smaller than the original). I checked the original PDFs and grabbed them again via FTP and they are fine.

So I’m guessing something in the Download process breaks the files and I have no clue why or how.

    Help is greatly appreciated!

  • Yes, I can confirm it. Also, there is interruptions during downloads to which so far no one has complained. I would like to know if I can go back from 2.7-4 to version before 2.7 ?

Same issue on my side. Since we’ve updated this plugin (2 days ago) all PDF files gets corrupted. Downloaded files were working perfectly before the update. Also, the HTML structure of the categories has changed which led our download section’s layout to be reworked completely because nothing was showing up anymore!!!
What’s the problem with the corrupted downloads ?
    Please help.
    Thx in advance.

if for “corrupted downloads” you mean you got an error saying something like: “failed operation, network error” I got this but too after updating to the 2.7.4
?? to bad! also the previous update had many troubles so i had to deactivate the plugin… waiting for a fix soon

No, sterilizie, I mean if I want to open the downloaded PDF files, Acrobat/Adobe Reader literally says the file is corrupted and can’t open it. If I grab them per FTP from the directory, they open fine.

This problem is confirmed from four different users, so I think Shaon is faced up with a new bug. Yesterday, I received a message from download manager support, as an answer on my bug report (PDF files corrupted download), quoting: “probably your server is not supporting output buffering, but I need to check to confirm, may you please give me a temporary wp-admin login info to check”.

I have conntacted my ISP, so there is no any limitation at server side, as well as server support double buffering.

Well, he does not commenting us, but I hope he work on the problem solution.

I’ve just noticed that when files are uploaded to the server using download Manager, the plugin changes the files names and add some code to it. This didn’t happen before I run the plugin update.
For example, I’ve uploaded a PDF file originally named ‘ss_arch.pdf’and the plugin changed its name to ‘1417303422wpdm_ss_arch.pdf’.
If I use a FTP client to grab it on the server (in the uploads/download-manager-files folder), this file is not corrupted.
So, it seems like a file gets corrupted during the download process from the web page using the Download Manager plugin.
Thx to fix this bug very soon.
    My best

download manager add prefix with file name when a file with same name already exits in server. So if you simply want to overwrite the file, you can upload using ftp.

File corruption on download in any specific installation may have various reasons, like, if server doesn’t support output buffering or conflict with any other plugin, but it is hard to tell checking the installation where it is happening.

    Hi,
I’ve a similar problem which is related to WP Super Cache plugin. If I disable the super cache plug in file are downloaded correctly. But if I enable cache, files appear corrupted.

    Hope this helps.

I found a workaround to my problem. Enabling the option:

Don’t cache pages with GET parameters. (?x=y at the end of a url)

in the advanced tab of WPSuperCache plugin solves the issue.

Yes, it probably helps to every WP Super Cache plugin user, but I do not use it, as a few of us not, so we still have a problem. As the author said, a new download manager v2.7 bring us a new DL code, so my opinion is that he is responsible to adapt a new DL code to be compatible with the other plugins.

    (later)

I have installed v2.7.5, but it did not fix corrupted PDF issue.

    9a2gb.net

I made some tests on “corrupted downloads issue” with download manager v2.7.5 and with a few file types.

Files affected with corrupted download issue:
    – PDF
    – RAR

It is interesting that MSI installer packages are not affected with that issue, luckily.

Also, I check all of my plugins and temporarily disabled a cache to find out a possible collision. Unfortunately, with no positive results.

I think I will downgrade to v2.6.9. Some issues remain unresolved for too long time. Every day I have to explain to my users what happened and apologize to them.

    Thanks for your answer Shaon.

I do not have the WP Super Cache Plugin, although a bunch of others. I could provide you with a list if you want?

Here they are: Admin Menu Editor, Better WordPress Google XML Sitemaps, Capability Manager Enhanced, Easy Contact Forms, Easy Table, Jetpack by WordPress.com, Page2Cat, Pie Register, PP Collaborative Editing Pack, PP Content Teaser, Smart Youtube Pro, Toggler, UpdraftPlus, WPDM Extended Short-codes, WP Easy Gallery Pro and WPtouch Mobile Plugin.

When I first tested the plugin (pre-2.7 I believe), everything worked fine. Then I made some updates and the file corruption on download request happens, apparently it seems to be a general bug because of the many replies this has gathered.

I’d be glad for a solution or even an ETA to the solution because I got users actively wanting to use the system and now loudly complaining (understandbly) because all of their downloads are broken.

I tried manually rolling back to 2.7.0. but that broke the whole website for some reason..

This may happen it any other plugin generate some unexpected outputs or if server doesn’t support output buffering, but whatever it is, I need to check it in specific installation to find the reason. But it is hard to install all those plugins in my side to find the issue. However, if anyone using cache plugin, you can skip page from cache with \?wpdmdl=.*

Alright, I can arrange to give you access to that page, where should I send the login details?

Hi! I can arrange the access too, if you need. This issue happens here too. I have opened a thread here (didn’t know that issue is this one described here).

Anyway, I have ran some tests. The problem occured with PDF and ZIP(with PDF inside). When I uploaded a .PSD (Photoshop) file, download worked fine!

    I have these plugins installed:
Akismet, Broken Link Checker, Formulário de contato 7, Display Posts Shortcode, Disqus Comment System, Download Manager, Easy FancyBox, Google Analytics by Yoast, Google XML Sitemaps, Instagram Slider Widget, Jetpack, JW Player 6 Plugin for WordPress, NextGEN Gallery by Photocrati, Really Simple CAPTCHA, Regenerate Thumbnails, Shortcodes Ultimate, Simple Share Buttons Adder, TablePress, TinyMCE Advanced, Use Google Libraries, Wordfence Security, WordPress SEO, WPDM – TinyMce Button, Yop Poll Plugin, Youtube Channel Gallery

    Some additional details:

    • WordPress Version: 4.0.1;
    • Download Manager: 2.7.5;

    Thanks!
