Hello all and thank you very much for your help!

My client sells downloadable products (books in .pdf). She wanted to update the file.

She has deleted the file and added another one.

Now, the (old) link to download the (old) file in the mail received for the previous orders, doesn’t work anymore.

How can I update the previous orders to make sure they still have access to the new file?

    thank you so much!

    Hello @juniorjef,

My client sells downloadable products (books in .pdf). She wanted to update the file.

Instead of deleting the entire file, simply replace the URL as demonstrated below. The new URL path for the new file should also be updated for previous orders. ??

Thank you for your answser. That’s how my client should have done (I told her, but it was too late…).

BUT, that’s not how she has done…

So, my question is: now that she deleted the file (and uploaded a new one), how can I easily do to make the new file available to download to the people who ordered before that change?

I’ve read that I need to set up a new permission to the new file to all the old orders and send them an notification email, one by one. Is there a faster way to do that?

    thank you so much!

    Hi,

my question is: now that she deleted the file (and uploaded a new one), how can I easily do to make the new file available to download to the people who ordered before that change?

I followed the steps mentioned previously by @babylon1999, and it is working on my end for previous orders.

Go to the product edit section on your backend, once the product is located, edit it to add the new file.

    Then update the product:

The new file will be updated including the previous orders. It will work even after deleting the previous file and replacing it with a new file.

When the customers are in the my account section, they can download the file, this method is transparent to them, the new file will be the one to download.

If you are looking to notify the customers to inform them about the change, you can follow the recommendations made in this web article:

I hope this points you in the right direction.

thank you for your answer. BUT

I Cannot change the file now that cause my client has already deleted (clicked on the X next to the button Choose File) the old file and added a new one.

Maybe the code could help, indeed. But I will have to manually update all the previous order. Let’s see ?? Thank you

    Hello,

But I will have to manually update all the previous order. Let’s see

    Sure thing.

Please note, you will also want to regenerate access for the customers. One alternative is to bulk regenerate the access to all of them by using an external plugin:

    I hope this provides clarity.

    Hello,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – we’ll be here if and/or when you are ready to continue.

    Thanks.
