File permissions

I have never heard of permissions being an upload problem with a new installation, but some hosts do have limits for file sizes. You might want to look into that more closely before things become convenient for hackers.

I think it might be a common issue in environments where files and directories may not be owned [and] group-owned by the user account. That probably results in WordPress not being able to create the upload directory.

Thanks for reply guys, I have uploaded my theme and some images to the site now using the permission 757, but my question was is this safe? I can change back to 755 once they are all uploaded but it is just very annoying having to change the permission on the upload folder every time I want to add a new image?
