• Hello,

I’m currently trying to customise the default (Kubrick) theme.

It seems like I can only get my installation of WP to let me update the files from within the dashboard if I set the permissions on the theme to 777 but I don’t really want to do that because, as I understand it, this will leave me more vulnerable to bugs and (I’m not quite sure what else but the general consensus seems to be that it’s bad).

Am I doing something wrong with my file permissions?

Does it matter that my default theme folder is set to 777?

    Any help very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    James

  • I’ve been able to get image uploads working with 775 permissions if you can get the uploads folder’s group set to match the group the web-server is running under. It should work with the rest of the files too.

Check out the dangers of 777 in the codex. I’m dealing with a similar situations and it’s not the theme… it’s the hosting company and their server configuration. I’ll be moving the site to a hosting company that allows a more secure WordPress setup!
