file sharing area in wordpress

  • I have a site I am developing for a client in wordpress that uses pages for 80% of the site.

    The site has a users area fr a forum which I have a plugin for, I also have a latest news section which uses categories to separate News from Events.

    I would like to know if there is a plugin for users to upload files (documents) and a description and assign them to various categories – I saw a wp vault plugin but that seems to utilise the whole WP installation – is there a simple plugin to allow users to upload into categories as contributors – where the admin has setup the various cats?
    Be nice if the users could also comment on the files when browsing them.

    It is an educational site and the shared documents are for registered practitioners.
