    Hey there,

I can’t upload any more files at my wordpress website. I already checked the permissions, deactivated the plugins and changed the design theme.

I always get the error message:

"image.png" could not be uploaded due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content / uploads / 2015/01.

That was after I manually created the folder structure 2015/01. before he said the folder 2015/01 could not be created. pls check the permissions.

I already updated WordPress from ver 3.sth to 4.0.1 (manually, automatic update always fails)

Any ideas what I can do?
    Thx for your advise!

    Hi,

It still sounds like you have a permissions issue, especially if you’ve had to create directories manually, the same goes for if using the update button in the WordPress dashboard isn’t working.

Permissions have a fun way of checking parent folders as well, so ideally the WP-root folders and below need to all be set up correctly. If you run the server your self you should be checking both the file and folder permissions, but also the user and user-group of the files and folders.

If you’re using a shared host, asking them to verify the file and folder rights and permissions should be fine as well.

I have access via ftp to the files and changed the permissions for the wordpress folder and all subfolders and files tamporarily to 777 but it didn’t change anything.
Maybe the server does not change the rights as it should do and I should ask the host to change it manually again.

The 777 setting is a bad idea for security reasons, just throwing that out there right away.

When you create the folder manually, you might be creating it in your FTP user, this user might be different form the server user so then the host would need to fix the user:group ownership of the folders and files for you.

If you are using a shared host, have them verify and potentially fix the user and group for the uploads directory and see if that helps ??

    yeah i directly changed to 775 .
I found the problem, the host has forbidden writing permissions of scripts.

    Cheers for your help!
