I have successfully created and downloaded a backup. I went to my new WordPress install, where I have added the plugin, selected import and I immediately get an error saying “File upload failed”.

I’ve searched the forum and cannot see any relevant posts.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi dear @hanspan ,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

    1) Could you tell us which version of our plugin you have on the new WordPress install?

    2) On the other hand, could you uninstall and install the plugin and let us know if the same issue occurs?

    3) We would also like you to check one more thing: please, extract the backup file and let us know if it’s successful?

To use SGBP extractor you firstly need to download and install the mentioned software on your PC.
    You can download it here:
    https://backup-guard.com/downloads/

After installing the SGBP extractor, you need to choose the respective archive you want to extract and also choose the destination path where you want to extract.
More details can be found in the following link:

Thank you for the response ??

    1. On both old and new we have Version 1.6.8.5
    2. I’ll try this now – should I do old and new?
    3. The file did NOT extract properly; the log says “SGExceptionInternal: Archive is not valid

The file is large btw – it’s 40GB. I don’t know if this is a factor or perhaps the download has corrupted?

Hello, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin on my instance of WordPress, generated the download file, and attempted to extract the file in the SGBP Extractor. Unfortunately I get the same error as above.

We have quite an old version of WordPress which I am trying to migrate to a new version. Perhaps the old version of WordPress is causing issues here? The plugin does say it is compatible with our version.

    Dear @hanspan ,

    Let’s go over the points.

    1) The file did NOT extract properly; the log says “SGExceptionInternal: Archive is not valid – This means that the backup file is damaged and unfortunately it cannot be restored. The reason for this may vary, for instance, it can be due to server limitations, bad internet connection, file size, bandwidth, etc.

Do you have any other backup file which can be used for restoration? Or is it possible to create a new backup?

    2) The WordPress version may play a role in the upload fail as well. So, it would be better to have a newer version of WordPress and then try the restoration.
Nevertheless, even with the new version of WordPress, the same file you used won’t work since it’s not eligible for restoration at all.

    Thank you for your response.

    1. I have already tried creating 2 files and downloaded them.
    2. The issue I have is that I am unable to update the WordPress version because of the PHP version on the server. This is why I am trying to migrate the site to a new box with the latest WordPress.

I’ll try another download as I may have a better connection today.

Tried again but unfortunately the file will not open.

Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions?

    Dear @hanspan ,

Do you mean that you got the same error message when trying to extract both files?
If that’s the case, then both files are damaged and practically unrestorable.

However, can you send the backup logs of those files so we can try to understand why the backup fails?

    Thank you beforehand!
