Thats the temporary file created by the zip process, there isn’t anyway to open it. Is the backup still running? If so that temp file will be replaced with the final backup once it’s done. If not then your backup must have crashed, the temp will be deleted automatically the next time you do a backup.

there are for each time it has made a backup 2 files : a small one .zip around 3 to 4 MB and a huge one around 3 Gb without extension… the zip files are removed after some time but the big ones stay in there for 5 weeks…

and the small zip files are the database backups ONLY, I am looking to restore my wp install…

It sounds like there is some funny business going on.

The files and database should be in the same zip. It sounds like the files backup is failing but the database is working.

Have you tried opening up one of the database backups, is that complete.

    > a huge one around 3 Gb without extension…

How big is your site? If you exclude some files does it then complete?

the database backups work great, I restore the database without problem.

the whole website is 91.02 GB

what do you mean if I exclude some files ?

At the moment I have no access to the admin of the website due to an error I am trying to fix, that’s why I need to restore the website

That likely explains the issue, I imagine your server is hitting some internal limits trying to zip up that many files.

    > what do you mean if I exclude some files ?

You can exclude files when creating a backup

    > At the moment I have no access to the admin of the website due to an error I am trying to fix, that’s why I need to restore the website

You don’t have a backup of your files, only the database. You are not going to be able to restore your files from this backup.

    ok, Thank You,

the website is that huge because the backup folder is 91.01 GB…

Wow, thats crazy, is it just full of loads of temporary files? Can you just delete it.

    Thread Starter vincentleleux

    (@vincentleleux)

yes it is mainly full of temporary files. I have deleted them.
I have just asked Hostgator about any backup and they don’t have any, beacuse the site was too big, of course…

I don’t know what to do to restore the website now
