Files can still be directly downloaded from the media library

  • Unfortunately the plugin’s documentation does not include any hint that a file associated with the download plugin can still be downloaded as normal using the public link from WordPress’ media library. This means as soon as someone knows the file name it isn’t that hard to “guess” the WordPress media url. This link circumvents the download plugin completely.
    It would have been great to know about this or if there were some instructions on how to mitigate this or if this is by design.

    With a normal installation of the plugin it is not possible to directly access download files. So there’s probably something else going on with your site that’s making it not work properly. You can submit a ticket on the support forum or via our website. We are glad to help you.
