After renaming some image files using the plugin I discovered that the previous version of the image was still in the folder (e.g. uploads/2023/04/old-image.webp), so the plugin just made a copy with the new name (e.g. uploads/2023/04/new-image.webp) and replaced it in the database but it didn’t actually get rid of the old version. Is there a reason for this behaviour?

Since the old name doesn’t show up in the media section anymore the only way to delete the images related to it is by manually deleting them with an FTP client. So is it possible to just rename the old image and not make a new copy?

    Hi @ksvgn2018,
I had similar reports, but I’ve never been able to reproduce the issue on my development server ??

Can you tell me which other plugins are you using?

    Thank you for reporting!

    Hi @ksvgn2018,
I just released version 3.11 that fixes one issue related to file deletion, can you try the new version and tell me if the problem persist on your server?

    C.

    Good day @crossi72,

I reach out with a very similar issue. I use Ewww Image Optimizer which (to my understanding) creates image files with different sizes on the server. It produces the new images format after renaming with Phoenix Media Rename so that’s already a good point but I still have stored the previously generated files formats.

Would you be able to find a fix ? It is very inconvenient to get to the server to delete manually and leaving the 2 sets of images (with old and new file name) would be a bit heavy on the server over time.

Thanks in advance for your investigation,

    Hi @elfantino,
I’ll check Ewww Image Optimizer to see if I can get the file name list, so that I can add the code to rename the file generated by the plugin.

    Thank you for reporting

    Hi @elfantino,
I’ve been away from office for two weeks, now I’m working again on Phoenix Media Rename ??

I’ve tested Phoenix Media Rename with Ewww Image Optimizer on my development server and everything worked fine, can you tell me which options you have activated in Ewww?

    Thank you
    C.

    Hi @crossi72,

just coming across your question. Thanks for looking into it ! Ewww is simply set up and the following are activated :

    • General : remove metadata, differed upload, autoscale,
    • Advances : none
    • Resize : resize exisiting images
    • Conversion : none

Hope this helps to figure out why,

    Cheers,

    Hi @elfantino,
I’ve tested EWWW Image Optimizer with your settings and everything worked on my development server.

Did you try to rename a file with the latest version of Phoenix Media Rename (3.11.3)? This version fixed an issue with thumbnail deletion, maybe this was your case.
