• Hello WP Forums,

I have my WP sites hosted with DreamHost.com and I accidentally deleted a domain from my dashboard. https://www.quintinart.com

When I re-added the domain to my dashboard, the site was inaccessible because I no longer had a “1 Click WordPress” installation.

When you visit the website it says “Error establishing a database connection”

When I log in via FTP, the files are still in the domain directory.

I am not sure what to do from here and I am not sure if this question is for this forum, but DreamHost won’t help me.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Do you have a recent database backup for your site?

I think so. I am logged into DreamHost and I still see a sql db on there… It gives me a few options.
    – Add a user
    – Restore DB
    – Modify DB
    – Delete DB

    Is that an .sql file?

    I think so…. Sorry – I don’t really get sql. lol.

Here is a screenshot… I circled every time that QuintinArt showed up and blacked out everything else. Maybe this will help.

    Try using Restore DB.

I just tried and it gave me this option… https://www.quintinart.com/sql2.jpg

In the dropdown it allows me to restore 3 hours ago up to 5 days ago, but this website has been down for 1 month.

What I really need to do is have all of the content (words, html code, pictures, etc) copied from the old website so I can put it onto a new one.

If I have to re-add pictures or anything, I can do that.

I think this website is a goner though…

this website has been down for 1 month.

Then I’m afraid that, without a locally saved database backup, you’ve lost everything.

What about the files that are saved on my ftp?

Do none of these have the content that was on the website before?

Your content was saved in your database – not in the WordPress files. At best, all you’ll have are copies of images & attachments from the old site but nothing else.

    Are you serious?

Where does the db get saved? To my ftp server or somewhere else?

I can’t lose this website… What about my hosting company? Can they recover? They said they can’t…

    Are you serious?

    Completely. Sorry. ??

Where does the db get saved?

It’s stored on a special MySQL server. I can only assume that when you deleted your domain name, the database was automatically removed.

What about my hosting company? Can they recover?

Not after a month. Had it been a few hours, you might have stood a chance but not after all this time. You could see if you could retrieve odd pages via Google’s search cache but, again, I think you’ll be lucky to find anything after this long.

Just so I am 100% sure… Nothing is recoverable from my my full FTP directories?

The sql db is gone, so all of my content and links are gone. Correct?

    Esmi is 100% correct, unfortunately.
