Filter by category displayed as checkboxes – not dropdown

I have set the option “Filter by category displayed as:” to dropdown on the “Map Settings” tab in the plugin control panel (WP Google Maps – Pro add-on (Developer Edition)).
The categories on the map page in my website display as a l-o-n-g set of checkboxes.

Is this a bug, or am I misunderstanding how to get the categories as a dropdown list?
