• Not sure if I’m approaching this the wrong way, but I’m looking for a way to override the names of user roles in the admin. I’m using the contributor and author user roles, but would like to call them something different. In addition, I’m running the site in two languages, it can be viewed in either English or Swedish. The new user role titles could be the same for either language, that wouldn’t be a problem.

What I would like to do, is create a language file override or add a filter setup that would re-write the name of the user roles when in the admin. What I don’t want to do is edit the main language files, as I don’t want to have to update this in the future – I would like to define the new titles of these two roles and then not have to worry about it.

Does anyone know of a way of using either of the two ideas above, or any other solutions? I know there are plugins with which you can modify user roles, but it seems like overkill just to change two titles and it adds yet another plugin which needs to be kept updated.

    Thanks, karl

Never managed to find a way of doing this. In the end, I used the Capability Manager plugin, which allowed me to create new groups.

Since I only really want to rename a user group when it’s displayed in the admin, it would still be great if it was possible with a filter (or other solution), as it would mean one plugin less!
