Filtering content for Social media members vs WP members

Hi,
I was hoping to create a filter for an item in my header depending on the type of membership the user has. I use a custom login and registration plugin. I have this because I have a WordPress multisite and want the root site to be unknown to child site members.What do I want to filter?
I want to filter a single link in the header which displays an admin tab. This filter would be based on whether or not the person is logged in using WP membership or have become a member using their social media account. The admin tab includes password reset option which is obviously useless to members using their social media. I am not sure where to start when trying to differentiate from one membership and another.I have thought about the possibility of applying a specific role to one of the memberships and then filtering by that role name.
Do you know if this is possible or have any idea how I might achieve this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
