Filters greyed out in Block editor

Hi there, we’ve only disabled the default duotone filters in favor of our own color filters. We’ve done the same with the default gradients and color palette. This is fairly standard practice for themes to ship with their own colors to match the style of the theme. We’re not limiting the power of the block editor or disabling any features, just providing our own style.

Ollie doesn’t ship with CSS animations, but there’s nothing in the theme that would prevent them.

I totally get shipping a theme with a default set of filters and colors – it makes for harmonious color schemes. But disabling the gradient editing I don’t get – if you want to make a minor color shift it is not possible.
I have another use case: I have a transparent logo with a dark color, when i set it against a dark background i can put a light gradient on top to increase the contrast. Perhaps not best practice, I could make a light logo and use that, but being able to edit the gradient allows me to use the same logo in multiple places.
I will figure out how to overwrite the .json file in a child theme and all will be solved.

Hey there, there still seems to be a misunderstanding here. We haven’t disabled any features, including gradient editing. You can still create your own gradients or edit the ones available.

If you aren’t able to edit gradients, please me know how you’re trying to do this. It could just be a misunderstanding about how the gradients work.

Hi, yes it is quite possible that I am misunderstanding how this works – here is what I can tell you:
When I try to edit a gradient on my home page, the custom gradients do not work – the block editor looks like this:

When i edit the theme.json file and set customDuotone from “false” to “true” :

Then the block editor will allow me to set a custom duotone, and it will appear like this:

Perhaps there is another way to edit duotones – I am new to the block editor. Thanks for your time.

Oh my gosh, you’re totally right! I must have left that custom duotone limitation in there when testing recently. ?? Sorry for the confusion. I’ve just made that fix and it will be available in the next update, which could be tonight or tomorrow.

For custom gradients, those are kind of buried in the interface, but you can do them currently. Here’s a quick video showing how to customize those.

Hi, Mike, I have a follow up question about updates. My old theme was a child theme with Genesis as the parent theme. Will I need a child theme with Ollie to avoid any future updates from changing or affect the look of the site?
