So I have browsed quite a lot online but didn’t find any answer on this question and I am hoping someone here will be able to reply.

We are using WordPress 4.0 and the Virtue (Cadence) theme. As you can see on this link, we list number of restaurants and write reviews about them using the Portfolio feature. In the beginning they were just few, but over time, they’ve grown rapidly and now it is hard to browse.

What we would ideally like to do is have filters on the main page, that would give the user the ability to filter them by cousine type, location, price per person or other factors. It would be even better if we somehow manage to embed a map, where we mark them and when people hover over a place, a tooltip opens and the page filters only this result.

Any ideas how we could possibly achieve this?

The portfolio pages should support tags. You could then create tags for each of your categories (cuisine type, location, price, etc). Then, perhaps, you could create a portfolio page for each tag.

Or, you could create a sidebar list of tags.

    For example:

    Narrow Your Search

    Cuisine Type
Cuisine Type 1 (links to Tag Archive Page)
    Cuisine Type 2
    Cuisine Type 3

    Location
    Neighborhood 1
    Neighborhood 2
    Neighborhood 3
