Find and delete all images associated with out of stock products

Does anyone know of any tools that would allow bulk deletion of images linked to sold/out of stock products only?
More details of my use case:
https://www.shopontheborderlands.co.uk/ is an online shop selling (mostly) collectable role playing books, maps and magazines.
Condition is important in this market, so each product has a large photo showing the exact item that is for sale, and stock is generally just one item per photo.
With thousands of products, the disk space requirements of storing photos of sold products are considerable. I’d like to delete the photos and retain the product descriptions, (so that if we get another similar item, we can adapt the product description rather than completely re-creating it).
To do this, I could do with the ability to select photos attached to out of stock items.
I’m considering writing a plugin to do this: if you don’t know of any solutions that can do this at present, any pointers on the best approach to this?
