Hi, anyone know a way to filter “free themes” that are from a commercial publisher out of the theme search results? (https://www.ads-software.com/themes/) I’m looking for a way to only see themes from non-commercial devs.

I want to work with a theme from a dev that isn’t on an upgrade path to a pro version, doesn’t have back-end hooks to the dev’s site, etc. You know, a *clean* theme like almost all of them used to be. I don’t mind donating to the dev for help and support, in fact I prefer that model, but man the theme directory is filled with commercially produced free themes.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I do not know of a way to filter what you are asking for.

All themes submitted to www.ads-software.com must meet these theme submission guidelines.

Also, I think it is always a good idea to read the reviews (good and bad), check the theme support site to be sure that the theme author responds to support issues, and check the changelog for regular updates.

    Hope that helps!

^ Look for a theme with a good track record of support; not just from the author but contributors.

Thanks but why are all these comments off-topic? I am asking for a way to find themes not from a commercial source in the Themes listing on www.ads-software.com. I have no other question.

As @keithdriscoll said, there is no filter for what you’re asking. Other people just give good advice. Take a look at themes made by Automattic, there 100% non-commercial, https://www.ads-software.com/themes/author/automattic/

If you thought our replies were off topic can you re-explain your problem?

I guess I don’t understand the confusion with my question. It’s a question about filtering the results on the Theme search, nothing to do with theme author quality or support or anything else. I don’t actually need help with those points, just getting a theme that’s not a “free theme” on an upgrade path.

But apparently there IS a way per Staartmees. Although it’s a workaround, I need a list of authors that aren’t commercial publishers.

I’m thinking this is a filter that probably should be on the Themes search options. I have cases where I need a commercial theme and can’t use an indie one, and then there’s this case where I need an indie theme and can’t use a commercial one. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has encountered these requirements before. I’ll post a suggestion to that effect.

Thank you everyone for your replies, marking as resolved.
