• New to WP and using it to practice build new vaudeville.org site (local host). Tried several galleries (NextGen, Aesops Story, WP Portfolio) and none seem to be able to do what I need (page I need help with, above). We have 170 short profiles plus photos of vaudeville performers. On old site I had list with names as hyperlinks to the performers’ profile page. Cumbersome, but it worked. I don’t really want a menu with 170 items in it. Would like thumbnails that would take you to profile page and a search function to find a specific performer which would then go to page. Closest I’ve been able to come up with is stick each photo/profile in a block section but it will make for a ridiculously long scroll. If there were a carousel that would include the text portion that might work. I have two new galleries I’m going to try, gallerybank and maxgalleria, but thought someone might know of a better solution. We’re a small, all-volunteer nonprofit. Greatly appreciate any recommendations.

  • Perhaps you are approaching it from the wrong side?
If the main content is the performer’s profile page (which is a post or custom post type), then the image would just be the featured image for it? And then you can search all the posts and there are a lot of plugins that show featured images in various ways.
You can use a plugin like Alphabetic Pagination, to show those posts alphabetically, and there must be lots of ways to categorize them so that the categories are in the menu instead of each individual.

    Thank you. Again.
The photo is the main “attraction” with the text being a 1-300 teaser word profile of the performer. This, hopefully, leading folks to buy a copy of the original article as published. I had steered away from this being any sort of posting site. If we allowed postings, we would be inundated with requests, “My grandfather was a headliner with Milton Berle; tell me about him.” If I ‘post’ all these entries, can I then turn off posting? Categorizing these performers would be difficult; a lot of categories and some folks would be in several categories. I think an alphabetical sorting of the posts would be an awfully long scroll, as bad as what I was getting giving each performer a block/section.
I will give it a try and play around with postings but it seems to me there must be a gallery out there that will do what I need. Perhaps I’ll try and see what casting agencies use. Would a gallery be listed in a page source?
New food for thought so thank you.
