• Hi everyone,

Just want to say I am new to WordPress but I am quickly loving it and am quite amazed by the community and its Support.

Not sure if this is an easy one for anyone to answer but I have a website and blog setup under a wordpress environment with a mystique theme.

While setting up the site and blog I slowly have been adding to the plugins to adapt the website and blog. Since upgrading FF from Firefox 3 to 4. I notice an odd behaviour with a quickly flickering bare code site just before the theme properly loads. I removed all wordpress plugins and any code adjustments I can think of but FF4 still shows the same type of behavior. When I first upgraded to FF4 the site and blog loaded fine, but since then I did some changes, mostly plugin additions but like I mentioned, I disabled them for testing purposes.

What got me thinking that FF4 might be an issue is that I loaded the site in IE9, Chrome and on a different computer that still had FF3, and the site loaded fine.

In FF4 I loaded the old site (non-wordpress, just basic php) and am not seeing this flickering behavior so this is why I am posting to the wordpress forum.

The site is https://www.hydroproxy.org and the old php site is https://www.hydroproxy.org/old_site

Any help is greatly appreciated. With all the new users jumping on FF4 I would hate to have this problem persist.

If you need any more info let me know and I’ll do my best to provide more feedback.

Does anyone have any feedback? Anyone ever see this behaviour or may know what to look for in order to troubleshoot?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
I just looked at your site, and when I follow links, I do get the bare HTML quick glance as you did.

You are using the notoriously finicky Mystique theme. Do you have the latest version of that?

I used it on a site, and it’s very nice, but had some slightly annoying portions of the code that I had to countermand, such as for any IE user it would display a very snarky lecture about what a dumb browser that was (I agree, but I don’t lecture site visitors and destroy my business). Clearly it’s been coded by a very talented, but fairly callow, individual.

You’ve ruled out the plugins, that’s a good first move. My first stop would be to try another theme and see if it goes away. The Mystique Javascript could be borking FF4.

Lastly, you seem to have a drop-down plugin working… when I did my Mystique site, it already had dropdowns working with no extra plugins, so that may be redundant or conflicting. That’s something else to check.

    good luck, D

    Thanks Flamenco,

Mystique theme installed looks to be up to date. 2.4.2.

I used your suggestion of using another theme, I enabled the “tweenty ten” theme and now the site is loading fine. The flickering I was describing is not happening with the default twenty ten theme. I since went back to the mystique theme and the theme looks to be having the same issue again. I would like to stay with this theme.

The site was working with this theme on FF4 at the beginning before I added plugins. I did a few modifications so Im going to try and track down anything I can think of.

If anyone still has any remarks and what files I should be checking, let me know. But thanks for your feedback in isolating the problem to the mystique theme.

For those that may just run into this. The variables would just need to be right. The problem happened on a mystique theme, (but I dont believe this is limited to just mystique), only on FF4 and the root problem was with a “kind of like” a CDN service and there was a beta program that my site was on (without my knowledge) that asynchronously loads your JavaScript resources. The idea is to optimize your site but in my experience I actually rebuilt my wordpress site from scratch because I could not figure out what the issue maybe.

Thanks again but the issue did not look to be wordpress or even the mystique theme but rather a 3rd party. Thanks for your help, without it, I might have still beeen scratching my head. Cheers,
