• I don’t know if this was known … several Templates I used didn’t work with FireFox.
Until a friend and FireFoxFan and I found out, that removing the first line in header.php (<doctype …>) may be not correct, but then the site is to be seen right in IE and FireFox.

  • Congrats! I think vkaryl’s experience was an anomaly as the page loaded quickly in FF just now. Took about a second or two with less than a half second for the database queries.

It is a sharp looking site, but you do have over 300K of images which would be a minor pain for anyone on dialup.

If I remember correctly, I think that vkaryl is on dialup. ^_-

P.S. Nice work, Ralph. I’m glad to see that you fixed it. But, now that you have, please add some compression to those images. Your site will currently load in “65.55 seconds” on a 56k connection: https://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/wso.php?url=https://www.rrsoftware.net/

Yep, oh poor pitiful me on the dialup dinosaur (which was why I said so, I didn’t want the poor guy to think it was anyone BUT me!)

Pays to read the entire post, even (and especially) the short ones! Don’t know why the “on dialup” didn’t register but it sure makes my “anomaly” comment nonsensical.

Unfortuantely, speed is my deception here.. I have a 5.0/Mb connection here (5.0 down/768up) so what I see as speed is never what it truely needs to be. Once in a while I do dial up just to see what it would make my site look like speed wise… I havent done that in months, nor have I checked a “simulation” of 56k on mine.. i need to lol. with my luck itd take forever and a day for mine to load.

but back to my original point.. its actually good to see someone on dial up make a comment on speeds. for me, i forget that there are people on lesser speeds than me and dial up and I forget to take that into consideration when I build sites.. for these days, there are all types of connections. I know people that have 56k but cant connect (due to old phone lines) faster than 28,800 or 33,600…

jsut another point to keep in mind when building websites is who your target audience is and accomidating for their type of connection speeds.

    (sorry for the long rant!)

    *laughing* s’okay, on a GOOD day I get 26.4….

Believe me when I say that I design sites to be viewed optimally on dialup. Those with something better don’t get scads of eye-candy, but they do get quality css and XHTML Strict.

ROFL funny enough.. I would rather have compliance and speed over eye candy.. cos then you can make your focus on content instead of eye candy. Eye candy can change, but content is a one shot thing.. and Search Engines cant see content. IMO.. if you don’t do good in search engines with complaince and content.. then there is no point of eyecandy because limited amounts of people will see it.

but.. as usual thats my 2 cents.. Now if i could just find a way to do a little eye candy to even brighten up my own site..
