I have 10 sites on a shared account and I was able to install Wordfence successfully on all of them. The problem is though that the firewall component can be activated only on one installation.
    All other installation fail:

    1. I cick on configure and then it takes me to the page where it says “We’ve preselected your server configuration based on our tests, but if you know your web server’s configuration, please select it now.”

    2. I click on continue, download htaccess backup and click on continue again

    3. Then it take me to the initial page where it says:

    a) The changes have not yet taken effect. If you are using LiteSpeed or IIS as your web server or CGI/FastCGI interface, you may need to wait a few minutes for the changes to take effect since the configuration files are sometimes cached. You also may need to select a different server configuration in order to complete this step, but wait for a few minutes before trying. You can try refreshing this page.

DOESN’T MATTER HOW LONG YOU WAIT – CHANGES ARE NOT THERE.

    b) It also says the something that it was saying in #1
“We’ve preselected your server configuration based on our tests, but if you know your web server’s configuration, please select it now.”

it is a Siteground Hosting and I’ve followed wordfence instructions to provide environment settings. Strange thins is that firewall works on the first installation I’ve installed it to. But it canot be installed on the others.

    Please advise.
    Thanks a lot!

    ok, solved, thank you.

This happened to me as well, I had to work for hours with my hosting support to get it right. What they actually did is hard for me to describe as I’m not an expert, but it involved creating a php.ini file for each website, and changing some settings so that the system actually looked to those files for settings. Overall it was a pretty frustrating process as I spent some time just getting to the point where I knew what to ask the host as they were not familiar with Wordfence, even though I’m supposedly on a Managed WordPress system (a term I’ve subsequently learned is somewhat of a crock). MTN

    Hello elovkoff,
sorry it took me a while to get to your issue. I’m glad you were able to solve it yourself. If you have time, feel free to share your solution here as it may help others. If you don’t have time, that’s cool too. ?? I’m setting this to resolved for now, hope that’s ok with you.

I simply had a typo when copying the settings to htaccess, so the instructions you provided on your fine for installing WF on a shared account are just fine.
There is nothing to share really.

    Hello,
I’m having the same issue. I’m using the suggested Apache + suPHP configuration.

I’m on siteground hosting and get this message.

The changes have not yet taken effect.

Can you please post your solution. There was mention of adding something to .htaccess or php.ini

    Thank you.

I’m also having this issue! Please advise!

    Hi,
for those of you who are on Siteground, our documentation site has instructions for how to optimize Wordfence Firewall on Siteground.

If any of you are not on siteground, or you are still having issues despite following the instructions in that manual please start your own topic and describe which type of hosting environment you are on and which option that Wordfence preselected for you when you attempted to optimize the firewall. It’s very helpful if you can include information about your “Server API”. You can find this information by clicking on the link on Wordfence Diagnostics page that says “View your configuration in a new window”.

Please do not keep replying to this thread but start your own topics and we will get to you as soon as we can. Thanks!
