Yeah, I can click the optimize button but after that I don’t know what to do to actually optimize the firewall. Don’t assume any knowledge on my part.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @geercom, thank-you for your question.

Let me know if the optimize button doesn’t present anything further, where we may be looking at a conflict or some Javascript not loading. However, if you’d just like a bit of extra information to assist your path through optimization, our guide from the help documentation should be able to assist: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/optimizing-the-firewall/#firewall-optimization-setup

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

It presents more. I don’t see the option to add a screenshot. That would explain more than I can say. Here’s the text of it though, and the Continue button doesn’t work like it’s waiting for something. I downloaded the ini and other file and that’s not it. I just need the firewall optimization to go back to 100%. I have another issue, and I’ll post that separately, though it may be related.

    Optimize Wordfence Firewall
If you cannot complete the setup process, click here for help(opens in new tab)
To make your site as secure as possible, the Wordfence Web Application Firewall is designed to run via a PHP setting called auto_prepend_file, which ensures it runs before any potentially vulnerable code runs. This PHP setting is currently in use, and is including this file:

    /home/customer/www/davidgeer.com/public_html/wordfence-waf.php
If you don't recognize this file, please contact us on the WordPress support forums(opens in new tab) before proceeding.

You can proceed with the installation and we will include this from within our wordfence-waf.php file which should maintain compatibility with your site, or you can opt to override the existing PHP setting.

    INCLUDE
    OVERRIDE
NOTE: If you have separate WordPress installations with Wordfence installed within a subdirectory of this site, it is recommended that you perform the Firewall installation procedure on those sites before this one.
We've preselected your server configuration based on our tests, but if you know your web server's configuration, please select it now. You can also choose "Manual Configuration" for alternate installation details.

Apache + suPHP (recommended based on our tests)
Please download a backup of the following files before we make the necessary changes:

Once you have downloaded the files, click Continue to complete the setup.

    Hi @geercom,

You can include screenshots in forum topics by using a service such as Snipboard. It seems like there is a Javascript conflict between Wordfence and another plugin to prevent the continue button working, which is a similar problem to one we see with new customers unable to accept the terms and conditions popup after a fresh install.

I would try disabling all plugins except for Wordfence and reverting to a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-One. Does the behavior of the continue button not working still present itself when Wordfence is the only plugin enabled?

If not, re-enable your plugins one-by-one and finally your theme to see when it starts reoccurring, and that will be the source of the problem. You can install a maintenance mode plugin during this time if site visitors are likely to be affected. Browser extensions can also sometimes interfere with these pages so disabling those at the same time, or using a different browser to your default may be an idea during this period of testing too!

Also ensure that all of your plugins etc. are up-to-date.

Let me know how you get on!

    Peter.

For the time being, that’s too much upheaval and time investment on my end when I can simply use another WordPress security solution. Your solution should just work regardless of my theme, which I cannot change for you. I have turned auto-renew off in my account with WordFence. Please remove my payment information from my account to ensure you don’t accidentally bill me for a renewal I don’t want.

    Hi @geercom,

I tracked down your customer information from your forum username, however it seems from your last comment you are entitled to premium support which was not mentioned before. The forums are exclusively for the free version of Wordfence.

In this case I would have pointed you to go through that route and reinstall Wordfence so that we can take a detailed look into your site, something we cannot always do as part of the free service. Premium Wordfence Customers should open support tickets at https://support.wordfence.com.

You can also access premium support via the Help menu item in the plugin, Help link on the plugin’s Dashboard page, on our documentation homepage or via the HELP link in the footer of all wordfence.com pages.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
