Hi, i have a couple of sites that run Wordfence and IP’s are not being resolved to countries. In the periodic activity emails i receive as well as in the firewall dashboard it says country ‘unknown’ for each IP.

    My PHP version is:
    PHP 7.1.17-0ubuntu0.17.10.1 (cli) (built: May 9 2018 17:28:01) ( NTS )

I’m using ISPConfig to host this site. It has PHP-Fast CGI set as option.

Both these files are present, accessible and are up-to-date:

    /wp-content/plugins/wordfence/lib/GeoLite2-Country.mmdb
    /wp-content/wflogs/GeoLite2-Country.mmdb

    What could be causing this?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @dennisspaan,

It might be possible that Wordfence isn’t obtaining the correct IP addresses.

Can you check Wordfence -> All Options -> How does Wordfence get IPs?
It should list what IP it has detected under Detected IP(s), and you can cross-reference that by going to https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+my+ip

It also may be due to the result of the proxies settings. You can click + Edit trusted proxies to see if you have any set.

Lastly, you can also check Wordfence -> Tools -> Live Traffic, check some of the rows to see if the IP address is showing up or not.

Under ‘How does Wordfence get IP’s’ it has the default option checked:
Let Wordfence use the most secure method to get visitor IP addresses. Prevents spoofing and works with most sites.

And it has also detected my IP as can be seen at the bottom of this selection.
I don’t have any proxies set.

Under Live Traffic i can see IP’s and countries just fine.
