I’m currently building a site for a client and this is my first time using the USPS plugin – Free Version. The issue is with size and weight vs. First class shipping. Once the size or weight exceeds what USPS will take, the first class option remains available at a stupid low rate. Charging an unrealistic amount for something that can no longer be shipped First class. If the rates are live, shouldn’t the first class option drop off when the cart weight or size exceeds what USPS will take under the rules of First Class?

This also presents a second issue of rates being charged if the cart exceeds all other rates, Meaning how does one deal with Over Size items? Will the plug-in know shipping is not available and stop offering rates USPS won’t allow?

  • Hi coupe88,

Free version only handle Pack items individually. Shipping cost will be calculated for each items in the cart separatley.

When you add multiple items with each items weighing less than 13 ounce. Plugin calculate the rates indivdually and offer First Class Shipping cost eventhough the total order weight is beyond 13 ounce.

This is the same case when the Total order weight exceed the USPS shipping limit. But individual product weight stay with in the USPS limit so plugin offer shipping services.

We recommend you to upgrade to premium plugin to have Weight based or Box packing options. Free version is best suitable when you have only 1 item in the cart or You would like to calculate shipping cost individually.

Ok so if my client upgrades to premium the cart will be then calculated based on total weight of cart rather then individual?

Yes, you will have the option to calculate it by weight.
