• Would anyone be willing to help me get started? I’m trying to start up a WordPress site for my company. We already have a website and the guy that started that one said he installed WP for me. He supposedly got it started for me, but I think I messed something up already. Any help is appreciated. P.s. this is my first time using WP and designing a website, so be patient with me please.

Ok, maybe I should have started with my specific problem. When I first started, the only way I could get to my WP website was through the link the guy emailed me and from my dashboard. If I tried to preview my page it would send me to our original site. If I went to the wp site and clicked the link I created (About Us), it would send me to our original site. NOW, everything I try to click on sends me to what looks like my WP site, but with no theme. Does that make sense? Basically I need to fix the problem I created and then figure out why the stuff I tried posting isn’t showing up on the wp site.

I can’t even login anymore from my website.com/wp-admin

    What is the site’s url?

    langridgeplants.com

That url is currently being used for the old site. Where is WordPress installed on that domain? In a sub-folder or in the root folder?

I’m not sure. Like I said, someone else set it up for me. He just told me the login info for WordPress and MySQL.

Ask him what the URL to the BLOG is.

If you can’t do that, log in via FTP or a file management program and see if there are any folders under public_html

he told me to go to https://www.langridgeplants.com/wp-admin and login there. the login worked for a while (with the link problems mentioned earlier), but now I can’t even login and the site looks like it had no theme.

OK – what url were you given to login to WordPress?

Something has gone seriously wrong with that install. Can you try Ipstenu’s FTP suggestions?

Looks like the guy who installed it didn’t remove the index.html file from your site. Or someone added it BACK.

How many files named ‘index.<something>’ do you have on your server?

Rename them index.<something>.old EXCEPT for the one named index.php, leave that alone.

will I be able to access that though? I don’t know where he has all of that stuff. He doesn’t physically come here and do this stuff. we only communicate through email. He says “here’s the link and login info..good luck.”

I hate to say it but perhaps you need to look for a better developer? Any dev who left a site in that state needs kicking into touch (in my personal opinion). The fact that you communicate through email has nothing to do with it. So do I with all of my clients and none of their sites are left like that.

Bottom line: you really only have two choices:

    1. Start learning how to do this stuff yourselves. These forums can help with the WordPress-related stuff and your host should be able to point you in the right direction for things like FTP.

    2. Try try hiring someone else to do the work for you.
