I have the User Location extension and need to support members in filtering by 2-3 specified fields, sorting by distance and 2 fields, and keyword searching. I do not see any way to adjust the UX of the membership directory and it is impossible to intuitively understand. There is a long box flush left that says ‘Enter a Location’ with no button to then indicate a search and no proximity to an input for a distance radius. I purchased the extension because I thought it supported a distance radius search as GoogleMaps API can do that.

But that is only the beginning of the membership directory UX issues. There is a keyword search box that is flush right and overlapping in the center with this User Location box. It has the word ‘search’ in it and a search button to the right of it, but no text like KEYWORDs, and users do not know what they are supposed to enter in that box.

Then flush right is the word ‘filter’ which is nowhere near the actual filters, which are flush left.

And flush left is a dropdown for sorting.

HELP! How can I move these boxes around so the filter text is near the filters, the keyword box has the words ‘enter keywords’ or something other than ‘search’ in the box, the Location and Search boxes do not push over each other…

    Hello @drnwd6

If your question is about the paid extension, please read this topic – https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/paid-customers-please-read-this-2/.

We don’t support paid extensions here.

    Regards.

My questions are about the entire directory search/filter area. So while one field (location) is part of a paid extension, the rest of the issues are from the core free plugin. As the image shows, the FILTER flush right, not near the actual filters, which are instead flush left and under the sort — maybe the solution is having the ‘sort’ and ‘filter’ terms switch places. Then the keyword search box — I need to change the word ‘search’ innthe box to something more instructional, like “enter keywords’ since the button near it says Search.

Are any of these changes possible? The size and placement of the fields, the grayed out text in a field?

I’d like to reopen this to see if anyone can help. I realize the paid extension (locations) is not supported here – I submitted 3 identical tickets over the past 5 weeks and have no response from Ultimate Member on them. But the ‘free’ plugin is 90% of the issue in that the set up of the fields on the Member Directory make no sense and need adjustment.

Example, Can someone suggest how the More Filters text (which appears flush right) can be located close to the actual filters (which appear flush LEFT, BENEATH the Sort dropdown)?

Another example, the Search box is confusing as the instructional text in the field says ‘Search’ and the button says ‘Search’. Is it possible to change the instructional text in the field to something that is not redundant, but is instead helpful, like ‘Enter keywords’?

You can try this custom Directory template

This is great! It moved the filters beneath the filter text and updated the Search Box instructive text. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
