• Hi all,

I need some help with the security for wordpress. I’m getting 1 critical issue and 4 recommended improvements for wordpress so I need to fix them to make the site safe.

    Here it is:

Background updates are not working as expected

Background updates ensure that WordPress can auto-update if a security update is released for the version you are currently using.

Error A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check().
Passed No version control systems were detected.
Passed Your installation of WordPress doesn't require FTP credentials to perform updates.
Passed All of your WordPress files are writable.

    3 recommended improvements

    A scheduled event has failed

The scheduled event, wp_privacy_delete_old_export_files, failed to run. Your site still works, but this may indicate that scheduling posts or automated updates may not work as intended.

The REST API encountered an unexpected result

The REST API is one way WordPress, and other applications, communicate with the server. One example is the block editor screen, which relies on this to display, and save, your posts and pages.

Your site could not complete a loopback request

Loopback requests are used to run scheduled events, and are also used by the built-in editors for themes and plugins to verify code stability.

The loopback request returned an unexpected http status code, 404, it was not possible to determine if this will prevent features from working as expected.

    Here is the screenshot:

Do you know what I need to do to fix these issues?

I have already google it but it did not help me much so I need your help with these. If you could send me the link or what I need to do in order to fix these issues that would be great.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hello, chris0147, & welcome.

You don’t tell us a lot here, so before making suggestions which may not be relevant, I’m going to ask questions instead.

    1) What sort of hosting do you have, shared, VPS, or dedicated?
    2) What is the operating system for your hosting, Linux or Windows? Version?
    3) Is this a new site, or is this an issue that’s recently arisen w/an older site?

I think that’s it for now. I suspect permission/ownership issues, but your answers will tell me if I’m on the right track or going down a rabbit trail.

    1) I am using VPS
    2) I am using cent os 7
    3) There is an issue that recently arisen with an older site.

Well, chris0147, since we don’t know which plugin that is, please disable your plugins 1 at a time & check your health status messages until it disappears.

Then we’ll see which messages remain, ie, if there’s any more work to be done, or if fixing the 1 fixed everything.
