For those of you who cannot get the dropdown menu to work when you want to insert an image or gallery in a post with NGG, try reinstalling 1.7.4. You need to go back far enough that the database gets rebuilt. 1.8.4 did not provoke that for me. Once you get an older version working again you might be able to creep up in versions, but for me 1.7.4 still works so I’m sticking with it while I find something else (recommendations welcomed).

Meanwhile I’m calling it LastGen Gallery. :^) No insult intended to dev, it works very well for many people, but I cannot find a reason for this issue, which afflicts some blogs and not others on the same server, and it is a time-sink.

Plugin test fails even with all other plugins disabled and stock theme on up-to-date WP install. All my WP installs are in their own subfolder, and some work even though the test fails and some don’t work even though the test succeeds.

The way to resolve this issue, for me, was to make the WordPress Address and the Site Address exactly the same in General Settings. Otherwise the Plugin Check fails and the menu to add a gallery or image to a post won’t populate. Thank you to another poster who found this and posted about it.

NGG is worthwhile to use, although there are some quirks*, I was motivated to find the solution by having a lot of photos already uploaded to NGG.

*Most of these softwares consider the order to be photo->album->gallery, NGG has the latter two reversed which confuses at first.

When adding photos, there is not a link generated to the gallery one has just uploaded to, and when does navigate to Manage Gallery the newest one is at the bottom of the list, often several pages deep, instead of right there at the top.

Thank you to the developer for making it.
