• Howdy all,

I have several main categories, with several sub-cats within them. How do I “fix” the sub-cats so their position on the main page is not altered because of recent posts? I’d only like the order to be changed if the post is made to a main category.

    Possible?

    Thanks!

  • Their position where? I don’t recall anything in WP that would alter the position of the cats based on the freshness of the posts.

Sorry, I misread what was happening.

The blog has 9 main sections, each section having about 3 sub-categories attached to them. The main page, on the right, lists categories available that have posts in them.
(See https://win-win-win-resources.com/ … I am talking about the box labeled “Resources” on the top-right)

Now, I’ve been asked to change this so the categories box lists the 9 main sections in a fixed order, but does not list the sub-categories.

So, say I post something that belongs to sub-category “a”, which is part of main-category “1”. As it is now, it would list “1” and “a” in the box. I only want “1” listed. I don’t want child categories listed, only parents.

However, I’m not trying to edit the category listings in the post itself, only the box labeled “Resources” on the top-right.

    Ideas?

    Many thanks!

Unfortunately, the template tag that is supposed to be used in WP 2.1 and newer for displaying the cats:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories
doesn’t have a similar parameter as there is one for the Pages: “depth”.

You may want to try a search for fold categories plugin: that would show the children (=subcats) only when clicking on parent.
