• Sorry, I’m not sure what version I’m using for WordPress. However, I accidentally clicked on Pinterest as a spam referrer just now and have no way to add them back. Does anyone know how to do this?

I really don’t want to lose tracking information for Pinterest! Please help!!

The blog in question is https://www.mindyourdirt.com

This is more of a question for pinterest but maybe someone has a quick answer for you.

Thank you for replying, but I did this on my stats page in WordPress, so I’d need to fix it here and not on Pinterest. There was a little link marked spam right next to the Pinterest referrer that I accidentally clicked on. I tried to undo it, but that didn’t work and then it went away.

What are you using for stats in WordPress. Normally it would be Jetpack.

I’m simply using the default WordPress stats that are part of the dashboard. I’ve never added any plug-ins for the blog. Sorry if I’m making this unnecessarily confusing and thanks for your help!

Looks like your site is hosted at wordpress.com. These forums at www.ads-software.com are only for self-hosted sites.

I’m sure you’ll get this resolved through their support: https://en.support.wordpress.com/

Ahh, I see. I have my own domain name for my blog, would it be wise to have it hosted at www.ads-software.com instead of .com? If so, what would that take to do? Would my theme still work? Thanks for clarifying!

www.ads-software.com does not do any hosting.

There’s no problem at all with having your site hosted with wordpress.com, and lots of advantages. People self-host because they want more freedom to modify files/add plugins, but with that freedom comes more responsibility when things go wrong.

Also, www.ads-software.com does not host any sites, it is where the WordPress Content Management System is developed, plugins and themes are located, and the forums are here for support. Everyone here will have arranged their own hosting through third party hosts (e.g. Hostgator, GoDaddy).

Okay, thanks for clarifying. As well as indulging a .com interloper!

Please don’t cyber-slap me when I ask this next question! I’m reading a book about blogging for profit by Ruth Soukup and in it she recommends self hosting from the start because “you will not be allowed to the freedom to operate or monetize your site the way you want to”

That said, I’ve been working on mindyourdirt.com since October of last year just trying to build an audience and add some good content. I’m not ready (or even close to being so) to begin any monetizing yet, but don’t want to create issues for the future when I very well may be.

Do you have any advice about this? I would hate to spend so much time on my wordpress.com hosted site only to have to redo everything on a self-hosted site down the road when I would want to make some income from it.

Forgive my newbie and perhaps unprepared ways.

    yours,
    james

I don’t think there is any problem at all in moving from wordpress.com to a self-hosted site when you feel ready to make that transition. There is a useful article discussing the migration here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-properly-move-your-blog-from-wordpress-com-to-wordpress-org/ and there is no reason why you should lose any of your content.

Thank you. Do you see an advantage when it comes to monetizing? Or rather, disadvantages with having a wordpress.com hosted site regarding monetizing?

That’s not something I have any experience with. I would suggest that you start a new support topic with a clear subject title, perhaps here to get the perspective of the self-hosted community, and also at wordpress.com to get the thoughts of from that side.

The trouble for wp-com is there is not a lot of flexibility.

Maybe join a forum over that and ask.
