Hello. I have a question about the database. I created my site on a localhost, then uploaded it. I remember afterwards (it was a few months ago) changing the localhost reference in the database to the website address. The site works fine except for an issue I’m having with editing, which I have a different support post for it). But in investigating that issue, I noticed my fonts are still being called from localhost even though the fonts are installed in the correct folder in my server files. I found information that says I need to replace the references of localhost in the database to the website address. But when I did a search for localhost in the database, it says I have over 6,000 localhost references.

So my question is, do I change ALL of those references to the website address? I didn’t want to make matters worse, so I thought I’d better get some advise first.

I found info that suggests using a plugin called BSR to do it. Will that do what I need?

    Thanks for the help…John

Check out the plugin “Better Search Replace”.

I would recommend that you create a backup first. After that, I would also recommend using https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/better-search-replace/.

However, this is not always the solution. Sometimes the links are saved in a separate format – this depends on which theme or plugin they were inserted with. In this case, you need to find the setting of the theme/plugin.

Since some data in the database is serialized, simply replacing the text in the database could corrupt the serialized strings and cause fatal errors.

The Better Search Replace plugin claims to support serialization for all tables, but I strongly recommend performing a database backup before doing anyting to your database, as mentioned above.

Thanks all for the help. As I stated, I did find the BSR plugin. I just wanted to be sure that was the right way to go or if there was a better option. Everything else is working fine, it seems to be just the fonts that are still being called for from localhost. I only have TWO fonts and I do have them installed in the correct folder. I was just hoping there might be a more direct way to fix just that issue.

I’ll install BSR and take a look at it.

    Thanks again…John

Hello. So BSR will do the same search I already did. An no one answered my original question–should I replace ALL the localhost instances in the database with my web address? Are any of those 6,000+ references still needed?

    Thanks…John

All except GUID entries. These are irrelevant for accessibility.
