Flags not displaying in widget

    The flag icons are not displaying in the widget. For some countries there is an abbreviation where the flag should be (US,EU,JP,GB). For other countries there are just two character squares where the flag should be. The correct country names are displayed and the list of activated countries is correct.

    Also, maybe related maybe not, getting a 404 in the browser console that /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce-payments/dist/payment-request.css?ver=2.9.1

    I’d be glad to help with this.

    Can you confirm if you are using https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/country-flags-for-elementor/ to display these flags?

    The 404 error might not be related as these are separate extensions.

    I’d also like to better understand your site. Could you please send me a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it here in your response.

    I checked that page out on my end, and the flags load fine for me using Chrome Version 93: https://d.pr/i/zP6PTI

    Have you managed to resolve the problem?

    If not, could you please test how it loads in a different browser or Incognito Tab?

    Thanks for the tip, I tried it in Firefox and it works. But strangely…

    Firefox v91, each option has nested font tags:
    <option value=”USD”><font style=”vertical-align: inherit;”><font style=”vertical-align: inherit;”>???? $ USD</font></font></option>

    While Chrome v93, no font tags:
    <option value=”USD”>???? $ USD</option>

    Also note, in the line above, directly pasted from Chrome dev tools, the letters US appear in Chrome where the flag is. So even in this form Firefox is correctly displaying the icon.

    Where do these icons come from and why are they missing in my Chrome?

    Checking on my end, I’m seeing them display the flags without issue in both Chrome and Firefox. Also, I’m not seeing those nested font tags that you mentioned — they appear the same in both browsers.

    The WooCommerce Payments extension has a display_currency_option function used by the Currency Switcher Widget, which calls a get_symbol() function that grabs the flag emojis from this file here:

    It’s possible something in the version of your browser, or a setting, or browser extension/plugin might be causing emojis to render differently. I’m currently on Firefox 92.0 (64-bit), so you could try updating to see if that makes a difference (you mentioned you are on v91). Aside from that though, it’s hard to say why you might be seeing something different.

    I have checked this on three Windows computers (Win7 and Win10) and the flags do not display at all in Chrome. On those same computers Firefox displays the flags.

    Is there something inherent that Chrome is missing on Windows?

    It looks like most of or all of us testing so far are not on Windows7 or 10.
