Thanks for an interesting question. The [mla_gallery] shortcode does not have native support for lightbox, tiled/masonry galleries, slideshows, etc., but you can use [mla_gallery] to select the images you want to display and then use the “Support for Other Gallery-generating Shortcodes” to achieve these effects. You can find more information in the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab.

I have used [mla_gallery] with Jetpack, Photonic Gallery, Fullscreen Galleria and other plugins for applications like this. A quick search of the Repository turned up several candidates:

    Jetpack by WordPress.com

    Tiled Gallery Carousel without Jetpack

    Fullscreen Galleria

    Slim Jetpack

Photonic Gallery for Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, 500px, Zenfolio and Instagram

Once you find a plugin that you like, let me know and I can work with you to combine it with MLA and get the best of both.

This is the closest thing I could find to what I’m trying to figure out. I’m trying to get the carousel from the plugin Gallery Carousel Without JetPack to work when I use the mla_gallery shortcode instead of the gallery shortcode. Usually I’m pretty good at figuring stuff like this out if it’s php, but I don’t know anything about how shortcodes work. The help documentation doesn’t really explain this in detail enough for me to understand it.

I read through the documentation on that again, and I guess I should add a little more info.

I would like to use this with a category gallery, because I create albums with categories on my art site. That way if I say this piece is a traditional, pencil, drawing it will put it any of those galleries without having to manually put it into all of them.

Is it only doable by putting in the ids= part of the shortcode?

    ____
Well now I’ve answered my own question. All I had to do to it was put in the extra bit of code mla_alt_shortcode=gallery.

    @sol013,

Thanks for your questions and for your updates with your own progress towards a solution. I know the Documentation can be difficult and I appreciate the effort you are putting into integrating MLA with your application.

Your final sentence indicates that you are having at least some success. Can you tell me if you are still having problems or further questions regarding the combination of MLA and TGCWJP?

By the way, you may be interested in this recent support topic that also uses “Tiled Gallery Carousel Without Jetpack”:

Fixed height and Auto width on images displayed via mla_gallery

Thanks for your interest in the plugin. Let me know what else I can do to help.

I have had complete success with it. I just needed to sleep I think. lol
I added the tiled gallery carousel without jetpack plugin as well, and it works great too. using the same code. Thank you for the great plugin.
